Chelsea have completed the signing of Brazil centre-half Alex from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven on a three-year contract.
The rugged 25-year-old stopper moves to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer after spending three seasons in the Holland, having impressed in the Champions League for PSV.
Alex told Chelsea TV: "I hope to start very soon and to do a good job at this wonderful club.
"I am happy for the opportunity Chelsea have given me. It's a wonderful club, I sometimes watch the games and I hear about the club and I hope everything goes well.
"I hope to adapt myself very quickly because Ricardo Carvalho and manager Jose Mourinho will help me with the language barrier.
"I hope I can start straight away and won't have any problem to be on the team."
Alex is the second major addition to the Blues' defensive ranks this summer, Israel international Tal Ben Haim having joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers.
