Chelsea defender Alex is to undergo a hernia operation and will miss Brazil's upcoming World Cup qualifiers and the Confederations Cup. The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) confirmed on its website that the centre-half has withdrawn from coach Dunga's squad. Alex needs surgery on a hernia injury and will undergo the operation following Chelsea's FA Cup final clash with Everton on Saturday. The former PSV Eindhoven stopper was left out of the Chelsea team which beat Sunderland last weekend to rest an injury. However, Blues boss Guus Hiddink has confirmed Alex is back in training and he should be available to partner John Terry at Wembley. Dunga, meanwhile, is expected to call-up a replacement for Alex shortly as Brazil prepare for a hectic month. Brazil face Uruguay and Paraguay in 2010 World Cup qualifiers before heading to South Africa for the Confederations Cup where they will meet Egypt, Italy and the United States in the group phase.
