Alex ruled out for up to three weeks to give Chelsea major defensive setback

Chelsea have confirmed that defender Alex will be sidelined for up to three weeks with a thigh injury he sustained in the late stages of their 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday.[LNB]Alex has been ruled out of Brazil's friendly international matches against Iran on Thursday and Ukraine on Monday.[LNB]The central defender underwent medical assessment on the injuryyesterday and it is almost certain he will miss the trip to Aston Villaafter the international break and the Champions League clash withSpartak Moscow.[LNB] Fine form: Alex has become first choice since Ricardo Carvalho's departure[LNB]Meanwhile Chelsea captain John Terry admits he isstill being troubled by a rib injury as England prepare for their Euro2012 qualifier against Montenegro next week.[LNB]Terry missed the first two matches in Group G, against Bulgaria and Switzerland last month, with a hamstring problem.[LNB]But he also bruised his ribs during Chelsea's win over West Ham last month and the 29-year-old has revealed he is still in a lot of discomfort.[LNB]'I take elbows in the ribs in a lot of games but it is one of them where I have a bit of bruising and the masseurs can't get into it because it is too sore'Terry said.[LNB]'I had an X-ray and a scan and thankfully it came back all clear.
