Tottenham's title hopes were dashed as Chelsea came from two goals down to seal a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, ensuring Leicester were crowned champions.
Here, Press Association Sport looks at five things we learned from a feisty London derby.
1. Spurs fall just short again
Lost leads have cost Tottenham too many times this season and it did for them again here as a game they looked in charge of drifted away in the second half. West Brom took advantage last week and Mauricio Pochettino will also look back on advantages thrown away against Stoke and Newcastle earlier this season and wonder what might have been. Spurs' young squad must be more ruthless if they are to go one better next season.
2. No love lost in London
Chelsea made no secret of their want for anyone but to Tottenham to win the title and their fans soon set the tone, opening up with a chant of "We hate Tottenham" six seconds in. The players followed suit, with Cesc Fabregas and John Obi Mikel both riling Mousa Dembele early on before Danny Rose and Kyle Walker jumped into biting challenges. Rose's on Willian sparked a brawl, which saw Pochettino dive in to mediate while Dembele clawed his fingers down the cheek of Diego Costa. The players were still scrapping in the tunnel after the full-time whistle and the FA may well take retrospective action.
3. Dembele one of many to lose his head
Last week it was Dele Alli punching West Brom's Claudio Yacob, this week Dembele for scratching his fingers down Costa's face. Referee Mark Clattenburg appeared not to see the incident and if that is the case, Dembele could well follow Alli into being handed a three-match ban. Pochettino has said previously he never urges caution on his players but surely there was a case for calm in this contest, particularly with his side 2-0 to the good. Tottenham lost their heads, and with them the title.
4. Terry back but not to his best
John Terry has missed 10 of his team's last 12 matches but the Chelsea captain returned here for what, as things stand, will be his penultimate appearance at Stamford Bridge before he is allowed to leave in the summer. The home fans cheered as though a goal had been scored when Terry's name was read out before kick-off but it was the defender who was too slow to step out for Kane's goal, playing the striker onside at the crucial moment.
5. Chelsea will surely be better next season - will Spurs?
Antonio Conte is likely to reinvigorate this talented Chelsea squad who may well be freshened up with some multi-million pound signings in the summer. It seems inconceivable that the Blues will not be a stronger force in the title race next year but will Tottenham ensure their own challenge is not a one-off? They have a young and talented team but the test now for Pochettino is to keep the group together. Watching Leicester's title celebrations this week and next weekend should make them hungry not to miss out again.
