Higgins sends Chelmsford through
Sam Higgins was Chelmsford's FA Cup hero again as the 10-man Blue Square Bet South outfit avoided a potential banana skin against Hendon with a 3-2 win.
Higgins notched his eighth FA Cup goal of the season for the Clarets - who had keeper James Pullen sent-off - with Billy Bricknell and Anthony Cook also on the scoresheet.
Jamie Busby notched twice for Ryman Premier outfit Hendon but they failed to make their one-man advantage count.
Chelmsford edged a hectic first-half which saw three goals, three yellow cards, three substitutions and a red card.
They were ahead after eight minutes when Bricknell set up Higgins and it was two when provider turned goalscorer after 28 minutes, Cook's cross reaching Bricknell and he fired home, after his first effort was blocked.
Four minutes before the interval Clarets keeper Pullen was sent off for a reckless challenge on Aaron Morgan and Busby gave Hendon hope from the spot.
The Greens dominated the early exchanges after the break with Sami El-Abd making an important block to deny Brian Haule following good work from goalscorer Busby.
But in the 68th minute the 10 men made the game safe when Cook filed a 25-yard piledriver just inside Berkley Laurencin's right-hand post.
Busby gave Hendon hope running onto Lee O'Leary's through ball and tapping home after 80 minutes but despite a late push they could not get the equaliser.
