Varney: Dowie is safe

Charlton Athletic chairman Peter Varney has dismissed talk that manager Iain Dowie is facing a make-or-break time in his fledgling reign at The Valley.
Press reports had suggested that Dowie only had a couple of games left to salvage his job, with the Addicks bottom of the Premiership table, but Varney says that that is not the case.
He told The Times: "We remain confident we have the right man in the job.
"He is determined and has got the players onside, despite some of the rubbish that has been said and written. He has our total confidence.
"When the players are fit and we have a settled side, things will change and we will climb the table."
However, Addicks skipper Luke Young has admitted that morale is low after seven defeats in eight league games this term.
He added: "We're probably as low as we've been and this run has got to stop.
"To be fair, the manager doesn't deserve what's happening to us at the moment.
"He can only do so much. Once he picks a team and sends us out there it's down to us to get the points. Saturday's match against Watford is now vital for us."
