Reid tipped for the top
28 Nov 2006 - 08:53:20
Charlton Athletic winger Andy Reid has been backed to become a big hit at The Valley by new Addicks head coach, Les Reed.
The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland ace joined Charlton for £3million in the summer from Tottenham Hotspur and has taken time to settle in with his new employers.
However, after Reid netted his first goal for the Addicks in the 1-1 draw with Everton, Reed feels that his player is ready to show his class.
He said: "Andy is a big influence here, a player who can excite the fans and somebody for whom I have a lot of admiration.
"He is very ambitious and very much a winner and I think he does want to prove to people how good a player he is.
"He has the quality to become a legend at Charlton and we have had a few. I think he really enjoys his football here. We are going to see a lot more of him.
"Andy's body shape makes him look worse than he is, but he is fully fit now.
"Perhaps we rushed him back a bit early from the hamstring injury, because when you are struggling you are tempted to do that with good players."
