Reid nearing return

Charlton Athletic midfielder Andy Reid could return to action when Arsenal travel to The Valley on Saturday.

The Republic of Ireland international, who joined the Addicks from Tottenham in a £3million deal in August, has been on the sidelines since limping out of the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on September 9 with a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old is one of eight players to have missed games because of injury during Charlton's stuttering start to the campaign, but could present Dowie with a rare piece of good news on Saturday.

"Reid is a possibility, while (Djimi) Traore and Souleymane Diawara have been running strongly," Dowie told the club's official website.

"I doubt they will be ready but Andy Reid might be ready.

"We would love to have Andy Reid back and we will see how we go. If he's available he will strongly come back into contention."
