Alan Pardew believes his Charlton Athletic side is beginning to understand what it takes to win promotion from the Championship after Saturday's 2-0 win at Preston.

The Addicks moved up to third in the table on the back of their fourth straight victory and Pardew believes the future is beginning to look bright at The Valley.

Charlton are now unbeaten since a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of QPR on October 27.

"We had one really bad performance against QPR, but we realigned ourselves after that, and we've put that to bed," said Pardew.

"I think the players are beginning to understand what we're trying to achieve tactically.

"If you're going to try to play football in the Championship, you must deal with the physical side of it and the tempo, and I think we have the right ingredients to do that.

"I am very pleased with the spirit amongst the group, and there is a determination in the dressing room to have a good season."
