Pardew stands up for Sam
03 Oct 2007 - 10:04:36
Charlton Athletic boss Alan Pardew has vowed to appeal against Lloyd Sam's sending-off in the 2-1 victory at Hull City.
Sam was shown a straight red card along with Tigers midfielder Ian Ashbee just before half-time at the KC Satdium and Pardew felt his player had been hard done to.
He told the club's official website: "I will be appealing against it.
"I've seen the sending-off again on the video and I don't really know what else Lloyd Sam is supposed to do to be honest.
"(Ian) Ashbee's tackle is late, then he kicked him twice and grabbed him around the throat.
"Then for the ref to take the course of action whereby he sent Lloyd Sam off as the aggressor by showing him the red card first, I have a bit of an issue with that.
"He's not that type of character. Ashbee had to be sent off but I don't know what our boy was supposed to do. That's how I view it and I'll stand by that."
