Pardew: Bent not for sale
28 Dec 2006 - 17:07:07
New Charlton Athletic boss Alan Pardew has ended speculation that Addicks star striker Darren Bent could be sold in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old England international was made Charlton captain for the 2-2 draw with Fulham in Pardew's first game in charge and responded with his first goal in nine games.
Afterwards, Pardew commented: "I will stay with Darren as captain until such time as I think somebody else will give us a lift - it certainly gave him a lift.
"He will definitely be leading the fight for us. Darren is such an important player and is absolutely essential to my plans.
"It is essential we keep him fit and well because we do not want to miss him for many games.
"I know how important he is and he will definitely be staying at this club through the next transfer window."
Bent had been linked with a move to Pardew's former club West Ham United - now managed by ex-Charlton boss Alan Curbishley.
