Hughes hails Pardew effect
02 Jan 2007 - 07:24:39
Charlton Athletic midfielder Bryan Hughes says the arrival of new manager Alan Pardew has given the whole club a much-needed lift in their battle to avoid relegation.
Hughes' last-gasp strike secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Aston Villa at the weekend, making Pardew's record one win and one draw from two games in charge.
Hughes said: "Just Alan being here has given us a massive, massive boost. The desire and the hunger of everyone has been raised.
"We've had the passion and the fight about us all season, but we haven't shown it out on the pitch enough. Certainly since Alan's come in we have.
"I can't put my finger on why, but it just seems to have happened. He's come in, he's steadied the ship and we've taken four points from the last two games, which is great.
"It puts a bit more pressure on the teams around us and hopefully pushes us on to get a few more points going into the new year.
"Everyone who's associated with the club knows that the desire and the belief that we've got is excellent. We're driving to put it right for the whole club."
