Halford backed to impress
31 Jan 2008 - 14:19:00
Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew is looking forward to working with Greg Halford after agreeing to sign the Sunderland defender on loan until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old has lost his way in the last 12 months since making his name at Colchester United and sealing a £2.5million transfer to Reading.
He started only two Premier League matches for Steve Coppell's side before being offloaded to Sunderland last summer.
Halford has again failed to impress on Wearside, making only eight league appearances and being sent off twice so far this term, and has not featured in the first team for almost two months.
Pardew told the Addicks' official website: "Part of doing business is to make sure you try to do something that's useful for your club. I lost Jermain Defoe in a similar situation when I was at West Ham United and brought in Bobby Zamora.
"Hopefully, we can have similar success with Greg. He's coming here on loan and I think he's got a lot to prove.
"It didn't work out for him at Reading, it didn't work out for him at Sunderland, so I think he needs to be a success here, but I think he will be a massive asset for us."
Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland international Andy Reid looks set to be moving from The Valley to Sunderland before the transfer window shuts.
