Charlton Athletic's new signing Andy Gray won praise from boss Alan Pardew for his performance in the 1-0 victory over Stoke City at The Valley.
The 30-year-old recently joined the Addicks from Burnley and showed up well on his home debut for Pardew's men.
He told the club's official website: "He did make a difference. His ability to take the ball in and retain possession in not a lot of room was key.
"He has obviously taken us up a level."
Of the overall display, Pardew added: "I'm pleased with the quality and patience we showed, that was a big, big win for us.
"In our recent games we've played well, but we needed to back that up with a win.
"My flair players did really well. We are stronger than when we played them earlier in the season and we are getting used to this division."
