Charlton Athletic will be without Osei Sankofa for two matches after the Football Association not only rejected his appeal over a red card, but hit the defender with a further ban.
Sankofa was sent off for fouling Robin van Persie in the first half of the Addicks' demoralising 4-0 defeat by Arsenal on January 2.
Charlton had pleaded wrongful dismissal, claiming that the Gunners striker was in an offside position when the foul was committed.
But the FA's disciplinary committee has taken exception to the appeal and hit the 21-year-old a two-match ban.
An FA statement read: "Sankofa will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect as a result of the dismissal.
"The commission also decided that the claim was frivolous and have given Sankofa an additional one-match suspension.
"He will therefore miss Charlton's next two matches."
