Fortune back with Addicks
27 Feb 2007 - 13:48:03
Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew has recalled Jonathan Fortune from his loan spell at Stoke City as the Addicks step up their bid to move out of the relegation zone.
The 26-year-old central defender has made four appearances for the Potters, but returns to The Valley as Souleymane Diawara is suspended for the crunch clash with Watford after being booked for the fifth time this season in the win against West Ham.
Hermann Hreidarsson and Madjid Bougherra are struggling with injuries, so Pardew has opted to take advantage of the recall clause in the loan deal.
He told the Addicks' official website: "It was important for Jon to get some games under his belt, but the terms of the agreement were that we could recall him after the first month if required.
"With Souley suspended and Hermann and Madjid still struggling that's exactly what's happened and he will bolster the squad ahead of the weekend."
Meanwhile, Pardew has handed a trial to the Portuguese goalkeeper Carlos Alberto Fernandes.
The 27-year-old played for the club's reserves in their 1-1 draw with West Ham's second string.
The former Boavista shot-stopper has been without a club since leaving Romanian side Steaua Bucharest last month.
