Charlton Athletic striker Darren Bent claims the club's Premiership future is in their own hands following a recent upturn in fortunes.
The Addicks moved out of the relegation zone on Easter Monday on the back of a six-match unbeaten run and the England striker remains confident that the previously beleaguered club can complete the job and avoid relegation to the Championship.
Charlton are in action at Everton on Sunday and could be back in the bottom three by the time the match kicks off at Goodison Park, but the newly-installed club captain has backed his team-mates to end a difficult campaign on a high.
"People had written us off and we were getting battered left, right and centre for a while which was not nice," said Bent.
"But we have shown character and done what was needed to be done. Now people are looking at us differently.
"We have given ourselves a massive chance of staying up now and the belief amongst the players is that we can definitely do it.
"We know we have got to win some more games, but we are confident now and taking that into every game.
"We feel it is back in our own hands now and we are happy with that.
"We are within reach of safety and will work hard now to make sure we do it."
