Ambrose given hope
30 Oct 2006 - 13:54:43
Charlton Athletic manager Iain Dowie is adamant that Darren Ambrose is still in his plans despite the former Newcastle United man's lack of recent first-team action.
The 22-year-old has not started a Premiership game since the home defeat against Portsmouth in mid-September and was only a substitute in last week's Carling Cup victory against Bolton Wanderers.
Ambrose was left out of the first-team squad for Saturday evening's goalless draw at his former club but Dowie has called on the midfielder to keep battling in a bid to regain his place.
"I've spoken to Darren but what I said to him will remain between me and Darren," said the former Crystal Palace chief.
"However, what we know Darren Ambrose is capable of producing, we've not seen. He knows he just needs to be a bit more reliable in terms of his final ball and his contribution to the team.
"But he's a talented lad and there should be room in any Premiership team for Darren Ambrose. Hopefully he'll show that form sooner rather than later."
Ambrose has scored four goals in 28 starts and 14 substitute appearances for the Addicks since his transfer from Newcastle in July 2005.
