Addicks swoop for Carson

Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson has joined Charlton Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

Addicks boss Iain Dowie has been working hard to add a top-class goalkeeper to his squad and had hoped to secure a permanent deal for Norwich City's Robert Green.

However, Green now looks to be on his way to West Ham United, while the man who replaced him in England's World Cup squad will fill the vacancy at The Valley.

Carson has struggled to make an impact at Anfield since his move from Leeds United in January 2005 and has played just nine first-team games for the Reds.

The 20-year-old finished last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Dowie will be hoping he can reproduce the form that helped the Owls avoid relegation from the Championship.
