Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew has snapped up the Portuguese centre-half Paulo Monteiro after the 23-year-old was released by Romanian side Farul Constanta.
Monteiro, who impressed the Addicks boss when he played in last month's reserve team encounter with Crystal Palace's second string, has penned a deal that will keep him at The Valley until the end of the season.
"I am very pleased to sign for such a big club, a great club," the former Braga and Istres defender told Charlton's official website.
"The camaraderie among the players is very good and I'm thankful the gaffer has given me such an opportunity.
"It is my ambition to show my value during the rest of the season and I want to prove I am good enough to play for Charlton and win a longer contract at the end of the season.
"I wanted a challenge and wanted to play in a more competitive league. I had played international football, but needed to progress my career."
