Charlton Athletic are threatening to take further action against the FA over the extended suspension handed out to young defender Osei Sankofa.
The Addicks appealed against the red card dished out to Sankofa in the 4-0 defeat at Arsenal, and were stunned to see the sending-off upheld and a second game added to the 21-year-old's ban due to a "frivolous" appeal.
The Premier League are supporting Charlton's stance, with a statement confirming: "We understand Charlton's frustration in regard to the extra match suspension for Osei Sankofa.
"We share their view that the appeal for his dismissal against Arsenal was neither frivolous nor an abuse of process.
"We continue to support Charlton's efforts to get the FA to reconsider this aspect of their decision through all avenues possible under FA rules."
Addicks chief executive Peter Varney added: "While we fully accept the right of the FA not to uphold our appeal, the decision to then call it 'frivolous' and double the ban is outrageous.
"The FA has refused to give us an explanation as to why they consider our appeal was frivolous - it was most certainly not frivolous."
