    Addicks return to summit

    17 Oct 2009 - 17:12:55

Izale McLeod headed Charlton Athletic's winner as Phil Parkinson's side returned to the top of the League One table thanks to a 2-1 victory against Huddersfield Town at The Valley.

Sam Sodje had earlier given the Addicks the lead only for Anthony Pilkington to equalise before the break.

MK Dons beat Gillingham 2-0 to go third, Jermaine Easter and Aaron Wilbraham grabbing second-half goals for Paul Ince's side.

Colchester United are fourth after drawing 1-1 with Wycombe. Kayode Odejayi put the U's ahead midway through the first half but substitute Jon-Paul Pittman netted a late equaliser for the Chairboys, who are now at the foot of the table after Southampton won 3-1 at Oldham Athletic.

First-half goals by Dean Hammond and Rickie Lambert put the Saints in control at Boundary Park and, although Pawel Abbott halved the deficit in the 65th minute. David Connolly restored the visitors' two-goal advantage with eight minutes left.

Leyton Orient came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1. Veteran former Newcastle United and Wimbledon striker Carl Cort gave the Bees a fourth-minute lead but Scott McLeish equalised before half-time and a Danny Foster own goal in the 65th minute handed the three points to the O's.

James Brown and Andy Monkhouse found the net as Hartlepool United won 2-0 at Swindon Town, while Carlisle United are in the bottom four after losing 3-1 at Yeovil Town, Ryan Mason scoring a brace for the Glovers.

Lee Barnard scored twice as Southend United beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 while Walsall thrashed ten-man Exeter City 3-0. Steve Jones scored a brace for the Saddlers and, after Richard Duffy had been sent off, Troy Deeney added a late third for Chris Hutchings' side.

Neil Harris scored a hat-trick as Millwall won 4-0 at Stockport County, Paul Robinson grabbing the other goal, while Tranmere Rovers beat Brighton 2-1.

Gareth Edds and John Welsh netted for Rovers while Glenn Murray pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with 12 minutes left for the visitors before being sent off.
