    Addicks face Bent blow

    02 Jan 2007 - 14:45:34

Charlton Athletic's bid to beat the drop from the Premiership has been hit by the news that new skipper Darren Bent could be sidelined for the next month.

The 23-year-old England striker had found the net in his last two games after being handed the captain's armband by new boss Alan Pardew, but Bent is now expected to be sidelined by a knee problem.

An Addicks source told the Daily Mirror: "We're all gutted. The other players must show they can cope without him."

Bent joined the Addicks in the summer of 2005 for £2.5million from Ipswich Town and has gone on to score 27 goals in 57 Premiership appearances for the south London club.

He had been linked with a move to join former Addicks boss Alan Curbishley at West Ham, but Bent's latest setback is likely to force Charlton into the transfer market themselves.
