    Addicks extend winning run

    05 Sep 2009 - 17:06:39

Charlton Athletic and Leeds United made it six victories out of six as the two former Premier League sides extended their lead at the top of the League One table to five points.

The Addicks beat newly-promoted Brentford 2-0 at The Valley thanks to first-half goals by Deon Burton and Lloyd Sam to maintain their 100 per cent winning start to the campaign.

Meanwhile at Elland Road, Leeds had little trouble easing past cash-strapped Stockport County 2-0 even without free-scoring Jermaine Beckford.

Mike Grella and Lubomir Michalik were on target in the first half for Simon Grayson's rampant side.

Huddersfield Town are third after coming from behind to beat MK Dons in a five-goal thriller with Antony Kay grabbing a late winner for the Terriers.

Southend United won their first game of the season in some style as they beat rivals Leyton Orient 3-0 at Roots Hall thanks to Lee Barnard's second-half hat-trick.

Hartlepool United beat Oldham Athletic by the same score at Boundary Park with James Brown, Leon McSweeny and Denis Behan all on the scoresheet.

Jeff Hughes' 26th-minute penalty helped send Bristol Rovers on their way to a 2-0 win against mid-table Millwall while Exeter City's recent poor run continued with a 3-0 defeat at Gillingham as former Rushden & Diamonds striker Simeon Jackson grabbed two goals.

Swindon Town moved into the play-off places after winning 1-0 at Yeovil Town with Steven Caulker's own goal proving to be the only difference between the two clubs.

Southampton were held to a goalless draw by Colchester United at St Mary's while Norwich City were also unable to break the deadlock against Walsall at Carrow Road.

Ten-man Tranmere Rovers lost 3-0 at Carlisle United after having Shaleum Logan sent off on the stroke of half-time, while Brighton secured their first win of the season as Nicky Forester's late goal helped Russell Slade's team beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 at the Withdean Stadium.
