    Addicks deny Bent bid

    22 Nov 2006 - 07:35:26

Charlton Athletic have dismissed talk linking star striker Darren Bent with an exit from the club, despite rumours of interest from Manchester United.

The 22-year-old England international has netted nine goals already this season, despite the Addicks propping up the Premiership table after a dreadful run of results.

Bent also scored 22 goals for Charlton last season following his £2.5million move from Ipswich Town.

That form has alerted the likes of United, but Charlton chief executive Peter Varney says that no deal is imminent.

He told the South London Press: "Darren signed a new, improved four-year deal in the summer and we have no intention of selling him.

"He's a key part of our side and of our hopes of staying up.

"There have been no enquiries from Manchester United or anyone else for that matter."
