Addicks axe for Hasselbaink
15 May 2007 - 07:51:04
Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew has begun shaping his squad for next season by releasing striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink following one disappointing season at The Valley.
Hasselbaink, 35, signed for the Addicks on a free transfer from Middlesbrough last summer.
However, after netting just twice in 25 appearances, the veteran striker has been told he is free to leave the Championship-bound club.
Meanwhile, Pardew is predicting a summer of change at the club with a number of key players linked with departures and others set for contract discussions.
England pair Darren Bent and Luke Young are expected to leave, while the likes of Talal El Karkouri, Matt Holland and Dennis Rommedahl have also been linked with summer exits.
"I want to make a point to the fans that we are acting quickly and positively," said Pardew.
"I am going to try to spend as much as I can as quickly as I can on quality players.
"We have a lot of people out of contract and we need to sit down and talk. Obviously things will happen.
"We have gone down in the right manner and the important thing is to re-structure for next season.
"The fans can feel that we have some hope for next year and I believe we can come straight back."
