Parkinson felt the Addicks' first win in nine games on their travels was "as professional and good as we have played away from home".

After Tuesday's League One clash at the Withdean Stadium,He added: "I'm very pleased with the performance. Brighton had the better start but it was quite comfortable for us in the end and it was a good night all round.

"We were very resilient, as you need to be to get a clean sheet and after weathering an early Brighton storm we showed the right qualities."

Parkinson singled out midfielder Wagstaff for special praise on his first league start for Charlton.

"Scott has given me food for thought," said Parkinson. "He's come in and been very committed. He has got more and more confident with his performances in training and the reserves and has earned his chance."
