Parky in the hunt for fresh blood

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson has targeted no fewer than eight new signings to bolster his threadbare squad. The Addicks' failure to gain promotion last season has proved costly with Parkinson losing 12 players, including captain Nicky Bailey, defender Frazer Richardson and winger Lloyd Sam. He said: "I think there are only two or three of that team left at the moment, so I've got to get some quality into the squad. "We all know there is work to be done. We've got 11 or 12 senior players and we need a squad of 20 players, so I'll be working hard to bring in another eight players. "There is no real timescale as it is important to get the right ones. It's rare that any manager has their full squad ready on the first day of pre-season. "In terms of squad building, it is a work in progress throughout pre-season training. We have got a lot of work to do, and this squad at the moment is a million miles away from what it's got to be to be competitive in this division."
