Parkison wants five more signings
The relegated Addicks have let nine senior players leave over the summer and Parkinson has so far added Frazer Richardson and Miguel Angel Llera to his squad.
"We are woefully short of players in a lot of departments. We really need to get to work quickly in improving the squad," he said.
"We need another four or five players.
"At the moment we only have one centre-back signed up. We've got gaps in the squad but the ones that are here, their attitude has been first class.
"I've enjoyed working with them so far in pre-season, but this is only the start."
