Parkinson backs Wagstaff to excel

The teenager steadied the Addicks' nerves by slotting home their second goal just four minutes after coming off the bench to help maintain the South London club's 100% start to the League One season. And boss Parkinson believes youth product Wagstaff, who made four appearances last term, has now come of age. He said: "I was very pleased for Scotty because he's a great lad who works really hard in training and in the reserves. We've been waiting for him to reproduce that when he gets a chance in the first team so this will do wonders for his confidence. "It's such a bonus for me that another of our youngsters has come on and made a contribution. He gives us athleticism, especially when defenders get tired, and this will help him progress for the rest of the season. "A couple of bad decisions were made with him last season. Maybe it was a case of him doing too much too quickly when he wasn't quite ready but in this game he showed everybody he is a good player although he still has a lot to do."
