Johnson delighted by Dele double

Johnson turned down a bid from Nottingham Forest for the veteran centre-forward on Monday and he must have been delighted with that decision.[LNB]Adebola turned the game with a 49th-minute equaliser, heading home Liam Fontaine's left-wing cross after a dominant Charlton had taken the lead through Tom Soares.[LNB]And four minutes later Adebola capitalised when the ball dropped from an aerial challenge, stretching to volley past Rob Elliot.[LNB]Johnson underlined Adebola's attributes and revealed his desire the striker would sign a new deal with the Ashton Gate club.[LNB]"Dele gives us power and strength in our attack and is worth more to us than Forest could offer," said Johnson.[LNB]"There is a new contract on the table awaiting his signature and I hope he will sign it soon.[LNB]"We were poor in the first half, but it only took a look from me at half-time for the players to know they had to do better. We sorted a few things out and in the end could have had more goals."[LNB]For Charlton boss Phil Parkinson there was little to be positive about as his side sunk deeper into relegation trouble.[LNB]Soares headed his first goal since signing on loan from Stoke to put the Addicks in front on 29 minutes after Nicky Bailey supplied the cross from the left.[LNB]But for all their dominance, Charlton could not add to their lead and were second best after the break as Adebola's goals inspired City to finally hit top gear.[LNB]"We weren't strong enough as a team in the second half," said Parkinson. "We played well for a lot of the game but it counts for nothing and we're finding it difficult to get over the finishing line in Championship games.[LNB]"We will lift the players ahead of our next fixture and it's hard to look ahead more than one game at the moment.[LNB]"In our last three performances there have been good things and we will try to emphasise them to the players as we try to build from here."[LNB]City keeper Adriano Basso made the best save of the first half, diving to keep out Therry Racon's low drive.[LNB]But Elliot was the busier keeper after the break, making two fine saves, including one from his own team-mate Matthew Spring, who lunged in to intercept a Michael McIndoe cross.[LNB]Elliot also did well to keep out a late shot from Gavin Williams. The goalkeeper even went forward for a stoppage-time corner as Charlton threw everything at their opponents.[LNB]But in the end defensive weaknesses and the ever-green Adebola proved the difference.[LNB][LNB]
