Benson leaves Parkinson beaming

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson saluted match-winning striker Paul Benson who struck his first goal for the Addicks late on to seal a 1-0 home win over MK Dons. The deadlock was finally broken five minutes from time when substitute Kyel Reid's cross was drilled home by Benson for his first goal since arriving from Dagenham last month. Parkinson said: "We've said all along if you get crosses in the box, Paul Benson will get on the end of them. In fairness he has got on the end of a lot of crosses we've put in and even in the first half he has had a header but it just hasn't quite gone in. "But when he was needed most he stuck one away for us and it is great for him and great for us. I think his all-round game has been good since he has been here but every striker needs to score and he will be pleased. It will be a weight lifted from his shoulders. "If you look at where his goals come from they come from crosses. Is he a free-kick taker from the edge of the box or a penalty taker? No. Get the ball in the box with quality and he has got a desire to get on the end of it. "In training all the strikers are good finishers, but when the pressure is on in a game, that is when it really counts."
