Charlton have confirmed a number of redundancies have been made in the wake of the club`s failure to win promotion to the npower Championship last season. The Addicks announced in mid-June that a number of employees had been formally placed at risk of redundancy. Steve Waggott has left his position as chief executive and Steve Gritt's contract as academy manager was not renewed, although four jobs have been saved from the axe. Managing director Stephen Kavanagh said: "It's been a tough few months for the club, and we've had to make some very unpleasant decisions. It's been an emotionally trying time for everyone at the club, especially for those placed at risk. "Staff have worked very hard in difficult circumstances over the past few years in particular, and I must pay tribute to their hard work and efforts during this time. I recognise that all of those affected have positively contributed to the club for many years, and were highly valued. "I'm very disappointed that anyone had to leave, but our financial situation didn't permit us to make any more savings."
