Zaluska eyes number one role

Celtic goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska has set his sights on becoming first choice, insisting he is prepared to stay and fight for his future.[LNB] The 29-year-old Pole joined the Hoops in 2009 but has spent much of his time there playing second fiddle to first Artur Boruc and then to on-loan Fraser Forster last season.[LNB]Celtic have made moves to bring in Forster on a permanent deal from Newcastle, but recently saw a bid rejected for the 23-year-old.[LNB]And that has given Zaluska hope he can become manager Neil Lennon's top pick between the posts this season.[LNB]"After last year - my worst year ever because I played just two games - I'm pretty sure this season will be much better for me," he told the Scottish Sun.[LNB]"I'm ready to play, the gaffer knows that. I hope every game I can prove to him I can be Celtic number one.[LNB]"To be honest after my first season when Artur Boruc was the Celtic number one keeper and I played something like 17 games, Artur then went to Fiorentina and I expected to play more than I did in that first season.[LNB]"But Fraser came and played very well. He broke records for keeping clean sheets and everything.[LNB]"I spoke with the gaffer a lot of times but Fraser did well and I have had to wait for my chance.[LNB]"I hope it has come now and we will see what happens."[LNB]Zaluska is hoping Celtic's tour Down Under, in which he started the match against Central Coast Mariners last weekend, can help his cause.[LNB]"I know Celtic are looking at goalkeepers, but if they sign a number one then we are fighting for a place," he said.[LNB]"I believe in myself. I know the gaffer trusts me and I am looking forward to a massive challenge.[LNB]"Would I have to move if I don't start this season? I love this club, I want to stay here and I don't want to think about being second choice all season.[LNB]"I hope I play far more games."
