The 18-year-old striker set up Miku in the 69th minute for his first goal for the Hoops since signing on loan from Getafe in the summer, before slamming a shot past United goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak for number two with 10 minutes remaining. In the final minute of normal time United's Gary Mackay-Steven scored what looked like a late consolation - only for fellow substitute Efe Ambrose to gift the hosts a point in injury time when he put a Barry Douglas cross past Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster. Despite what looked like an impressive afternoon's work, Watt seemed downbeat and is not confident of getting a start in Wednesday night's Champions League clash with Barcelona at Parkhead. He said:
"To be fair, I don't think I did as well as I could have.
"All right, I got an assist and a goal but I don't think my all-round play was the best.
"I don't think I've done enough to earn a start on Wednesday.
"Obviously we'll need to wait and see but hopefully I'm on the bench at least. "I'm critical of myself but I know I can do better than that.
"You can score two or three goals without playing well and still get recognised for hitting the net but I know I can do better and hopefully that's the bad game out of the way." He continued:
"I don't think the result will have any affect at all on Wednesday night.
"It's over now and we just have to move on and prepare for Barcelona - but needless to say we can't afford to switch off like that against them.
"You have to work hard and concentrate for 90 minutes, or 94 if there is added time, and see what happens." Mackay-Steven hopes he was redeemed by his strike, after having his spot-kick saved by Jamie MacDonald in the Scottish Communities League Cup quarter-final penalty shoot-out defeat to Hearts in midweek.
"Hopefully that made up for Wednesday night's penalty miss," he said.
"I was gutted to miss. I never really slept much after the game. It was hard after that kind of defeat.
"My goal was from a similar distance to the penalty - so I was just happy it went in this time.
"Getting the draw was the best way to get over the Hearts game.
"We want to kick-start our season and hopefully this result will do that.
"It was a great point and we want to build on it now and go on a good run."
