Scotland offers value for money for Premier League teams if they buy wisely
Scottish football is no longer of the high quality that it once was. Still it has produced players of genuine World Class talent in the past. Plus its current low reputation just means that the Scottish Premiership offers Premier League clubs great value for money.
So Lets take a look at some of the best players that could move to England.
Ryan Gauld
Aged only 18 Ryan Gauld is one of Scottish football's hottest prospects and has been linked with moves to a number of top English and European clubs. Although comparisons with the great Lionel Messi are exaggerations it's not hard to see that Gauld is potentially something special.
Given licence to roam the park by Dundee United manager, Jackie McNamara, Gauld is the creative hub of the side. Like all good players he seems to find that extra bit of time when the ball is played to his feet.
He often uses this extra time to devastating effect. Already this season he has found the net five times but it is his creative output which sets him apart. Gauld is directly responsible for six assists but he also has a hand in pretty much every attacking move Dundee United launch.
This guy could be a Premier League legend.
Bill McKay
Signing a forward from Scotland has in recent times seemed almost like spinning the roulette wheel. It's possible to win but for every Henrik Larsson with genuine quality there seems to be at least two or three Conor Sammons.
Still with goals being what the entire game is about there is bound to be a number of teams taking a good long look at Billy McKay. McKay averages about a goal every other game for Inverness and is this seasons leading goalscorer with 14 goals in 16 games.
Tricky with the ball at if feet and blessed with good off the ball movement McKay's record suggests he could certainly do a job for someone in the Premier League. Aged 25 its probably time for him to step up.
Niall McGinn
Northern Ireland international McGinn has been in excellent form this season averaging a goal every other game in the league to take his tally to nine for the season.
A tricky winger capable of mazey dribbles McGinn has been instrumental in guiding Aberdeen up to second in the table.
A move to Premier League could provide McGinn with the opportunity to really kick on as a player.
Aaron Doran
Another wideman Doran plays for Inverness along side Billy McKay for whom he has created numerous chances.
What sets Doran apart in particular is his crossing and dead ball delivery into the box. Dribbling past any number of defenders is worth very little if you can't also play that all important final ball. With four goals this season as well Doran is also capable of hitting the back of the net himself as well.
Capped five times at under 21 level it is surely just a matter of time until Doran gets a full cap under Martin O'Neill's management. A move to the Premier League cannot be too far away.
Fraser Forster
Playing regularly for Celtic and with Champions League heroics under his belt Fraser Forster is one of a depressingly short list of Englishmen that could play in goal for England at the World Cup.
A natural shot stopper able to save low drilled shots despite his height Forster's performances against the likes of Messi and Iniesta have improved his stock immeasurably. Still if he wants to add to his single England cap Forster will need to move to a club where a higher standard of football is consistently available. A move to a Premier League club would provide this.
