Thompson leaves St James' Park

ewcastle have confirmed that coach Alan Thompson, who has been linked with a role at Celtic, has left the club by mutual consent.[LNB] Thompson, who worked as academy coach during the 2008-09 season and as reserve team coach last season, has been heavily linked with a position at former club Celtic in recent days.[LNB]A statement issues by the Magpies said: "Newcastle United can confirm that Alan Thompson has left his role with the club by mutual consent.[LNB]"Alan served Newcastle United exceptionally well as academy coach during the 2008-09 season, and as reserve team coach last season.[LNB]"The club would like to thank Alan for his commitment to player development and coaching during his time at Newcastle.[LNB]"Newcastle United wish him every success in his future career."[LNB]Manager Chris Hughton is currently on holiday and the club are likely to wait until his return to appoint a replacement, with former Sunderland defender and Hartlepool manager Martin Scott, Bobby Robson's one-time number two John Carver and Steve Stone among those to have been mentioned in dispatches.[LNB]
