Strachan praises Bhoys pair

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has praised defender Gary Caldwell and midfielder Scott Brown after they were nominated for the SPFA Player of the Year award.

The Bhoys duo were named on the four-man shortlist, alongside Rangers duo Steven Davis and Pedro Mendes, with Strachan happy that the former Hibs duo are proving their worth.

He told the club's official website: "It's terrific. Gary came to us for nothing a few years ago and many people don't like it when players cost nothing, because they assume it must mean bad.

"He's proved that view wrong. He's shown that with will, determination and character, you can become a great player.

"Scott cost a bit more. Last season I'm sure some people were scratching their heads, because he didn't get to where everybody expected him to be after three or four games.

"Now, he's a sensation. It shows that patience in this game, which there isn't a lot of, and belief can help you go a long way."
