Strachan: We must win away
18 Sep 2008 - 08:29:54
Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has admitted his side needs to break their Champions League away jinx after being held to a goalless draw by Aalborg at Parkhead on Wednesday.
The Hoops opened their group campaign with a disappointing stalemate after Italian referee Matteo Simone Trefoloni disallowed a Scott Brown goal for offside and Barry Robson had missed a penalty.
The referee also managed to send off the wrong Aalborg player when he gave Michael Beauchamp his marching orders instead of Michael Jakobsen.
Speaking after the game, Strachan was unhappy with the standard of refereeing but also admitted his side now needs to break a record of one draw and 14 defeats from 15 away games if they are to progress from a group that also contains Manchester United and Villarreal.
"We've got to go and try to win a game away from home," he admitted.
"Tonight we had chances but we couldn't take them. The game was a problem to us. We know we were below the standard we have set ourselves recently.
"The goal was onside. And the guy that got sent off was not the right guy. So some people did not have a good night."
