Strachan warns stars over run-in

Celtic, who have a three-point lead over Rangers, host Falkirk on Wednesday night as Walter Smith's side visit St Mirren. The Bhoys overturned a seven-point deficit during April and May last year to clinch their third successive title but Strachan is preparing for just as challenging a finale to this campaign. "It takes everything," Strachan said when asked what would be required to win the title race. "You are tested everywhere - mentally, physically, technically. "You never know when you need that certain character or more ability. "When it comes along you will know it and you will find out if you have enough. It might just come instantly, it might build up." Scott McDonald believes staying on top of their game throughout the remaining eight matches will be vital. "The most consistency really, it's as simple as that," said McDonald when asked the same question. "There is no doubt the last Old Firm game is going to be huge. "But on saying that, that's getting ahead of ourselves. It's about winning every game that you can possibly win and that starts tonight." The 25-year-old added: "It's hard to question which team has got the bigger bottle. Both teams have done very well in the last couple of years when they have been in the Champions League, and Rangers got to the UEFA Cup final. "They will feel hard done by last year but we kept going as well and proved we could do that under pressure. "I think they have done the same at times. I think it's going to come right down to the edge and may the best team win." Falkirk are bottom of the SPL but they pushed Rangers all the way after losing an early goal in a 1-0 defeat on Sunday. And Strachan expects a tough test from the side managed by John Hughes. "We have had everything this year in terms of results," Strachan said. "The teams at the bottom know how to organise themselves against teams at the top and make it very, very difficult, which we have never had in years gone by. "When you face teams, you know right at the start of the game it's going to be really tense and you have to be prepared for that. "You imagine you are playing against men who are desperate not to get beat and the same thing is, we are men desperate not to get beat as well. "That will give up a lot of interesting games until the end of the season." Hughes has urged his side to make sure Celtic know they have been in a game, Falkirk defender Tam Scobbie revealed. And Scobbie claims the narrow defeat by Rangers showed the whole squad are up for the fight. "Not many teams go to Ibrox or Parkhead and pick up a point, never mind three points," he said. "On your own patch the onus is on you to go out and perform for your fans and when you go there the onus is on them, and they like to come out and attack. "Celtic are sitting top of the league and are there for a reason. They're pushing on and trying to win the league. "But the gaffer has told us to go there and make sure they know they've been in a game. "If we go there and try and move it the way we did against Rangers then we'll put on a good show and maybe with a bit of luck on the day we can get a couple of goals."
