Strachan tight-lipped over future

Radio phone-ins and fans websites were besieged by irate fans after the Hoops drew a blank against Hearts at Parkhead as Rangers were winning 3-0 at Dundee United to take the championship by four points. It is not the first time during Strachan's four-year tenure that supporters have turned against him and his position will be subject to increasing speculation over the following days and weeks. The former Coventry and Southampton boss, though, was in no mood to discuss his future when he addressed the media after the game. He said: "At this moment in time, we'd like to thank the players and staff; they gave it their best shot. "I'd like to thank supporters; it wasn't easy for them today. "We weren't up for the challenge of winning four in a row. "It is disappointing but we have only ourselves to blame. "We will analyse it later on but it doesn't take a genius to see that, in some areas, we weren't as good as we have been in the last three years." Strachan then praised his great rivals before hastily departing. "Then we go on to the next part and we say well done to Rangers," he said. "We say well done to Walter (Smith), Ally (McCoist), Kenny (McDowall), and Jim (Stewart) and their players because we know how difficult it is; it's not easy to win championships. There is a lot that goes on. "We congratulate them and I'm sure we will give them a run for their money next year. "We congratulate them because we think we can win with dignity and hopefully lose with dignity. "That's basically it for today; there is plenty of time to think about it for the next few days." Hearts boss Csaba Laszlo, meanwhile, played down speculation he is set to leave the club, saying: "I have two years left on my contract and my children are going to school here so I would like to stay. "My priority is Hearts but I need help to build a new team." Hearts skipper Robbie Neilson, who played his last game for the club before leaving for Leicester, hopes the Tynecastle club will hold on to Laszlo. He said: "It is hard to leave but I have been here a long time and I have a new challenge. "It has taken the fans 13 years to sing my name - so I was delighted. "Seriously, they have been great throughout my career and it has been a great honour to play at Hearts. "Hopefully the club can invest in the summer. "The manager is a good character, fantastic with the young players and tactically he is great. "I'm sure there will be a lot of people interested in him. "So it is important to keep him and one of the main things the club has to do is give him a budget to bring people in. "There were a lot of teenagers on the bench against Celtic and over the season you need more experience."
