Strach proud of achievement
23 May 2008 - 07:51:15
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan admitted winning his third straight Scottish Premier League title was one of the greatest achievements of his life.
The Hoops' 1-0 win over Dundee United and Rangers' 2-0 defeat at Aberdeen on Thursday evening ensured Strachan's side pipped their Glasgow rivals to a league title that had seemed unlikely two months ago.
Strachan has come under fire this season after defeats at key times left them well adrift of Rangers and after the victory at Tannadice the fiery manager issued a short statement.
The success also came just seven days after the death of first-team coach and Celtic legend Tommy Burns.
"It's been an incredible night and an incredible season," said Strachan.
"It has been one of the most memorable seasons I have had in my life.
"I thank the players for their belief and character and their ability.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and we have achieved what we had set out to do.
"And now, I'm going to be with people who supported and believed in us this season. Thank you very much."
