Dixie Deans can still entertain a football crowd Celtic legend Dixie Deans proved that he was a good sport at the Gordon Lennon Memorial Dinner by forking out for a Rangers top. Deans was among the over 200 diners that gathered at Partick Thistle’s Firhill ground to raise funds in memory of the Dumbarton captain, who died in a tragic accident last summer. An end of the evening auction saw various pieces of football memorabilia put up for sale to the highest bidder. Deans could not resist the temptation to push the boat out and bought an autographed Rangers away strip much to the delight of the Memorial Fund committee and Lennon’s family who were in attendance. Dumbarton’s Chief Executive Gilbert Lawrie said: “It was a great gesture by Dixie, he had everyone chuckling and telling him to put it on.”
