Richmond concerned by ref row

Referee Charlie Richmond believes the furore sparked by colleague Dougie McDonald has made the job even more difficult for match officials.

McDonald was warned by the Scottish Football Association for submitting an inaccurate match report and giving his supervisor a false account of how he arrived at his decision to rescind a penalty awarded to Celtic during their 2-1 win over Dundee United.

Richmond told the Scottish Sun: "We have been trying to get referees and managers to work together. But if you tell a lie to a fellow professional, it is going to tarnish that relationship. It makes it very, very difficult because every decision is now going to be highlighted in such a vigorous manner."

He added: "I don't think Dougie McDonald's refereeing ability is in doubt here, it is just the way he has conducted himself."
