Palermo keen on Samaras

Serie A outfit Palermo are keeping tabs on Celtic's Greece international striker Georgios Samaras.

The 25-year-old joined the Bhoys, initially on loan, in January 2008 from Manchester City and has since scored 36 goals in 107 appearances in all competitions.

However, Samaras lost a regular starting spot in the closing months of the season and Palermo are poised to make an offer.

Sporting director Walter Sabatini told TMR: "Palermo for Samaras? He has played for many clubs, but he certainly is a good player.

"Samaras is a strong player who, in recent years, has improved a lot playing in different football environments.

"In some ways he has been a football nomad, but he certainly has a lot of qualities."

Samaras made his name in the Netherlands with Heerenveen, before heading to England to join the Citizens in January 2006.
