Non-walking wounded

Celtic do not want to lose another player to injury for a friendly fixture Alan Thompson wants Kris Commons to pull out of the squad for the international with Denmark on Wednesday night. Commons turned up at the Scots' hotel on Monday morning with a foot injury picked up in Sunday's SPL win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie and then headed back to Lennoxtown for treatment. Commons is still to decide whether to rule himself out and plans to will report back to Craig Levein today. However, coach Thompson does not believe the game merits taking any chances. He said: "I think the important word is friendly "Had it been a qualifier for Scotland then it puts a different slant on it. But with it being a friendly, we would much prefer him to be rested and try to get him right for the weekend, which will be touch and go, I would think." Celtic are still coming to terms with the injury to defender Emilio Izaguirre, who broke his ankle at Pittodrie. The Honduran left-back had to leave the field early in the first half after a challenge from Dons winger Peter Pawlett.A statement on Celtic's website claimed that Izaguirre could be out for up to six months but Thompson was not so pessimistic. Thompson said: "Emilio came back to Glasgow after the game, he is at home and they are waiting on the final tests to see what needs doing. We are still waiting on the timescale. That will probably depend on the surgery and how it is when they open him up. Even if it is a short-term injury it is a blow but it is looking like it is going to be mid to long-term. Initially we didn't think much of it but we watched the DVD afterwards and you can see it is clearly a bad one. But it was a perfectly good tackle from the boy, there was no malice and no intent." Asked if a replacement left-back would be considered,Thompson said: "It is something that we have to look at. We have Charlie Mulgrew, obviously, who is more than capable but if anything happens to Charlie we are a little bit bare."
