No time for getting rusty

There didn't seem to be a break before the new season starts for Mark Wilson Mark Wilson is hoping a brief summer break will pay dividends when Celtic start their season against Hibs at Easter Road on Sunday. With less than a month off the right-back returned for pre-season training followed by and a short tour of Australia which came before a friendly against Cardiff City in Wales on Wednesday night. Wilson can see the positive aspects of a short break. He said: "The break seemed pretty quick. The end of one season and the start of another seem seamless. But that's the job. You have to come back some time. And in years gone by when you have had six or eight weeks off, it all seemed a bit strange getting the ball out and you seem a bit rusty. But when you have only had three-and-a-half weeks off it seems like you have never been away. I have been out injured many times for longer than that and so you pick things up quickly." Wilson put his Scotland career under threat when he cited fatigue at the end of last season. He may have to add to that threat again for his family. He made his full international debut in February as a substitute in the 3-0 Carling Nations Cup win over Northern Ireland in Dublin. However, after struggling through to the end of the season and a Scottish Cup final win over Motherwell nursing a knee injury, he asked not to be included in Craig Levein's squad for the two games against Wales and Republic of Ireland. Wilson hope he he will be considered as part of the squad  for the friendly against Denmark at Hampden on 10 August. However, his wife Kelly is due to give birth to their second child on the same day. He said: "I would love to be involved (against Denmark). But my wife is booked in to have our baby on the day of the game so I don't know how that is going to work out. If I am in the squad, great, and then I will obviously have to speak to the manager if that comes around. If I'm not I will be at the hospital that day."
