Much Edu about nothing - Loovens

The former Feyenoord and Cardiff defender is set to appear before a Scottish Football Association Disciplinary Panel on August 7 to explain his challenge on the American during Celtic's 1-0 defeat at Ibrox on May 9. The Light Blues midfielder looked at one stage like he would have to go off with a leg injury but came back on to the field following treatment. Edu later branded Glenn Loovens' tackle "malicious" after studying footage of the challenge but the big Dutchman, at the club's Lennoxtown training camp to launch the Hoops' new away kit, refuted that charge and believes he will escape an SFA suspension. "The word malicious makes it sound like it was deliberate," he said. "That is his opinion but he can't speak for what I am thinking. "I didn't do it on purpose. It was just an accident. "It all happened so quickly and I think (the SFA) will realise that as well. "When you look at it in slow motion it is always going to look worse, but it was a split moment. "I know what I was thinking and it definitely wasn't on purpose and if I remember correctly he played on." Loovens added: "I don't want to miss the start of the season so it is important that I don't get suspended. "That is why I am going to go and make sure I put across what my intentions were. "I think I have been suspended once in my life and that says it all."
