Venus also quit his post on the Baggies coaching staff to become Mowbray's right-hand man at Parkhead and believes it was a tough decision for all concerned.
"I think it was a far bigger decision than people realise," Venus told the Express and Star.
"He had a lot of affection for the players and the fans at West Bromwich and they were great with him.
"Everyone knows the size of the club at Celtic and to take part in European football was a big pull for him but I don't think he would have left Albion for anyone else.
"He felt the job was unfinished there. We only know one way to play and sometimes it was to the detriment of points. But the bottom line is it's what we believe in."
