Mowbray - No regrets over player sales

Celtic manager Tony Mowbray defended the decision to sell Gary Caldwell and Barry Robson days before his much-changed side slipped further behind in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title race with a 1-1 home draw against Falkirk.

Mowbray was without six of the players who featured in the 1-1 draw against Rangers on January 3 and the Hoops went behind to Carl Finnigan's 19th-minute opener before Georgios Samaras levelled.

"Decisions had to be made this week. They were made and I have no regrets," said Mowbray.

"We can't foresee an illness overnight or injury in training on Friday. That's part and parcel of the job.

"There are no excuses on injuries. I thought the team gave a good account of themselves and yet we didn't get the result."

Mowbray added: "My overriding thought is disappointment we didn't win the game but credit to Falkirk for defending so well and putting their bodies on the line.

"I couldn't question their desire and effort to get a result."
